About ADB

1964 - Bank of Ghana set up a Rural Credit Department to prepare the necessary legislation, plans and procedures for the establishment of a specialized bank for the provision and administration of credit and other banking facilities in the agricultural sector. 

1965 - ADB was established by Act 286 in 1965 as the Agricultural Credit and Cooperative Bank. The Bank started operations from a building on the Tunisia Road, West Ridge - Accra.

1967 - The National Liberation Council (NLC Decree 182) changed the name of the Bank from the Agricultural Credit and Cooperative Bank to the Agricultural   Development Bank and amended key sections of the original Act 286.

1990 - By 1990, the Bank became more diversified and added international banking and trade services to its growing product portfolio.

1993 - The Bank became the principal agent in inward money transfer and remittances in the country.

2004 - The Bank obtained the Universal Banking license and broadened its bouquet of services offerings.

2006 - The Head Office was moved from the Cedi House to the ADB House on the 37 Independence Avenue, Accra

2009 - Under the current and new management, the Bank went through a restructuring programme to reposition itself by balancing market orientation with a    development focus on Agriculture and more. By 2011, the branch network grew from 55 to the present 78 branches across the country with fully networked branches running on a robust ICT platform.

Around the same time, the Bank introduced the ADB Visa Classic Card, allowing card holders to transact business anywhere in the world.

2011 - The Bank also won the coveted Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIMG) Bank of the Year Award twice on the trot in 2010 and 2011 and more than a dozen international silverwares, prominent amongst them, the International Star Award for Quality. The Bank’s Continental ranking rose 24 places amongst Africa’s prestigious commercial banks.  

2012 - A ground breaking ceremony was performed for the construction of the state-of-the-art Accra Financial Centre on September 4, 2012 which will serve as our ultimate Head Office
