ADB Fulfils Promise To 2010 National Best Farmer

Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) once again fulfilled its promise to the Government and people of Ghana by handing over the first prize award of a fully furnished 3-bedroom house to the government as first prize award to the 2010 National Best Farmer. The prize was subsequently presented to Mr. Benjamin Adjei Adjetey, the 2010 National Best Farmer.

At the well-attended handing over ceremony at Oyibi, where the property is located, Mr. Stephen Kpordzih, Managing Director of ADB, reiterated the Bank’s commitment towards the sponsorship of the National Farmers’ Day Celebration and also in financing activities of farmers and fishermen in the country.

“In complementing ADB’s financing activities in favour of agriculture and related operations, we have also embraced the National Farmers’ Day Celebration and its Award Scheme, which ADB sees as a useful policy tool for promoting the welfare of our hardworking farmers and fishermen and the boosting of agricultural production”, he said.

Mr. Kpordzih added that ADB regards its sponsorship of the National Best Farmer Celebration and its Award Scheme as a social responsibility that it owes to the welfare of the farmers and fishermen all over the country, and also shares the Government’s view of the need to provide adequate prizes to our award-winning farmers and fishermen.

Hon. Kwesi Ahwoi, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, on receiving the keys to the house from ADB, commended the Bank immensely for fulfilling its promise to the winner of the 2010 National Best Farmer Awards. He also applauded ADB for having been the sponsor of the first prize of a 3-bedroom house to the winner of the National Best Farmer for over a decade.

He added that the government was committed to promoting interventions and programmes to encourage farmers to enhance productivity in the agricultural sector.

The Board Chairman of ADB, Alhaji Ibrahim Adam advised small scale farmers and traders to form cooperatives to make their access to credit form the bank easier. He also stressed that ADB’s doors were open to all to do business with them.

Mr. Benjamin Adjetey, the 2010 National Best Farmer, expressed his gratitude to government and to ADB for the honour bestowed on him and on delivering on the promise to him.

The first prize of a 3-bedroom house was built by Supreme Genesis Investment Limited a real estate development company. On their part, Supreme Genesis Investment also donated an additional 2-bed room out-house located on the same compound to the 2010 National Best Farmer.
