ADB PRESENTS HOUSE TO 2014 NATIONAL BEST FARMER
Apr 20 2016
The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has presented a three-bedroom fully furnished house to the 2014 National Best Farmer at Manso Nkwanta in the Ashanti Region. Valued at GH¢400,000, the house was built at a preferred location of the beneficiary, Mr George Asamoah Amankwah. The house has burglary proof doors, living-room furniture, a water storage tank with a wall built around it. Presenting the keys to the building to Mr Amankwah, the Board Secretary of the ADB, Mr James Agbedor, said the bank had been presenting fully furnished houses to national best farmers over the last decade. He said the gesture had become a heritage of the bank and pledged to continue to support the national award scheme. The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, commended the ADB for its continued support towards the National Farmers’ Day celebration. He explained that the presentation of the building and other awards to farmers was crucial because Ghana’s food imports bill for many agricultural products, which the country had a comparative advantage to be self-sufficient in, continued to be too high. He said the non-production of those food crops depleted the nation’s hard-earned foreign exchange and stifled opportunities to generate employment for the youth. The minister also announced that because this year’s elections would be held in November, the National Farmer Day event would take place in October. Mr Asamoah Amankwah commended the government and the ADB for the award and called for support to farmers, especially small-holder farmers, to increase their contributions towards national development.
